UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (19-2-2) used a pair of home runs from freshman Mattie Maxey to secure the Viqueens’ eighth-consecutive victory, 9-1 over Blackman (8-8, 1-2).
Annie Prince got the start for Community, throwing 4.0 innings and giving up zero runs with three hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts on 83 pitches. Gracie Daniel came on in relief, pitching the final 3.0 innings and giving up just one earned run on a pair of base hits while striking out two batters on 33 pitches.
For Blackman, Madison Keel got the start in the circle, throwing 4.1 innings and giving up eight runs, three earned, on eight hits, no walks, and zero strikeouts.
Community jumped on the Lady Blaze in the first inning when Gracie Daniel drove home a pair of runs on an RBI-double. Blackman committed an error in the field to allow the second run to score.
Neither team scored in the second inning, but then Maxey launched her first home run of the evening in the third inning. Maxey’s two-run homer doubled the Viqueens’ lead to 4-0.
In the fourth, Community tacked on another run before finally chasing Keel in the fifth inning after adding three more runs to take an 8-0 lead. Maxey’s second round-tripper came in the sixth inning in response to Blackman scratching across their first run of the night in the top half, giving Community a 9-1 lead going into the top of the seventh.
Anna Haskins batted 1-4 in the leadoff spot. Maxey went a perfect 3-3 with three RBIs and the pair of home runs. Gracie Daniel went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Annie Prince finished 1-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Daniel set down the Lady Blaze in quick succession to close things out, keeping the Viqueens’ winning-streak going as Community returns to district play on Thursday. Grundy County travels to Unionville with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
