Cape Girardeau, Mo. — Middle Tennessee baseball falls to SEMO on the road Tuesday evening, 8-5.
Middle Tennessee (13-11) got off to a hot start in the first inning with three hits that brought in a run. Eston Snider led off the game with an apparent single that he stretched to a double with his quick speed. Brett Vondohlen and Keaton Ray each tallied singles to bring the score to 1-0 in the first.
Southpaw Colin Kerrigan made his first career start on the mound and threw for two innings, giving up zero earned runs (one run) with one hit allowed. However, the Redhawks (14-11) pushed across three runs in the third to make the score 4-1 in the fourth.
MTSU used a Brett Vondohlen three-run shot in the fifth to score Minnick and Badylak, tying the game at four. The homer to left was his 11th of the season, building his Conference USA lead and increasing his national ranking to tie for seventh.
The game remained tied at four until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Redhawks scored four to take the lead.
Hayden Miller hit a solo homer in the eighth, but that wasn't enough for the Blue Raiders as SEMO took the midweek matchup, 8-5.
Eston Snider started the game 2-for-2 with two doubles. Minnick followed suit, going 2-for-5 with a double and some great defensive plays at first. Brett Vondohlen finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs on the offensive side.
