Middle Vikes dominate at Cascade

A strong first half was more than the Community Middle Vikings needed to down cross-county rival Cascade on Thursday night.

The Vikings scored early and often en route to a 32-0 blowout win over the Champions.

The Purple and Gold wasted little time posting points on the scoreboard.

Peyton Martin broke loose with 5:33 left in the first quarter for a 16-yard strike, then added a successful two-point conversion run for the early 8-0 lead.

Community held Cascade in check on the Champs’ first drive and forced a punt.

Taking over at the 49, Community once again found paydirt with a big gain.

Jax Latta sliced his way through the defense and scampered 38 yards to the end zone for the second touchdown of the night.

Community seemingly tacked on the successful two-point conversion, but saw the points after negated due to a penalty.

Following the penalty, Cascade forced a pass breakup in the end zone, holding the Vikings out of the end zone.

While Cascade struggled to gain any traction on the offensive side of the ball, Community continued to impose its will on Cascade.

Martin scored his second touchdown of the night with just under five minutes left in the first half.

He rattled loose for a 23-yard score, but again, Cascade prevented the two-point conversion attempt.

Community set up its next score following an interception by Latta, which he returned to the 50-yard line.

He finished the drive as time expired on a reverse that went 13 yards to the end zone, bumping the Vikings’ lead to 26-0.

Cascade orchestrated its best drive of the night on the first possession of the third quarter and drove to the Community 23-yard line before a costly fumble gave the Vikings possession again.

Community made the turnover hurt as Martin broke loose for his third touchdown of the night—good for 73 yards, with 1:19 left.

Neither team found the end zone again.

Community will be on the road again next Thursday, traveling to backyard rival Eagleville, while Cascade will travel to Forrest.

Both are slated for 6:30 p.m. kickoffs.

Community 14 12 6 0 — 32

Cascade 0 0 0 0 — 0
