LAS CRUCES, N.M. - MTSU couldn't overcome an early deficit on the road Friday evening, falling 6–1 in the series opener at Presley Askew Field. With the loss, the Blue Raiders drop to 19–23 overall and 4–12 in Conference USA play.

NM State struck early with three runs in the first inning, aided by a of defensive miscue from MTSU. The home side added another run in the second before Hayden Miller put the Blue Raiders on the board with a solo home run in the top of the third—his ninth of the season.

MTSU collected six hits on the night, with Eston Snider notching a double and Matt Wolfe and Brett Vondohlen each adding singles. Despite a few chances, the Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize with runners on base, stranding nine over the course of the game.

Colin Kerrigan took the loss, allowing four runs (only one earned) over four innings of work. Relievers Ollie Akens and Landen Burch combined to finish the final four innings, allowing just two earned runs between them.

MTSU will look to bounce back in Game 2 of the series on Saturday.
