MTSU set to take on No. 22 Liberty this weekend

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Liberty for a three-game series this weekend. The first game of the series will take place on 12:00 pm CT on Friday, April 4. The following day a double header will be played with the first game beginning at 1:00 pm CT and the series finale taking place following the conclusion of the first leg of the double header. The games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available via Stat Broadcast.

The Blue Raiders (17-19, 6-6) are coming off a sweep of the Kennesaw State Owls, where their offense exploded, and the pitching staff dominated. Middle Tennessee hit .395 as a team in the three-game series, led by Macie Harter's .556 batting average. Ansley Blevins powered the lineup with two home runs and five RBIs. The pitching staff matched the offense's success, posting a 1.42 ERA against the Owls. Leila AmmonTori Coffman, and Mary Martinez each made two appearances, limiting Kennesaw State to just four earned runs.

Prior to the KSU series, the Blue Raiders edged Memphis in a thriller, winning 8-7. Tied 5-5 entering the seventh inning, Lexi Medlock launched a go-ahead two-run home run to put Middle Tennessee ahead. The Tigers threatened in the bottom half of the inning but fell short. Julia Garcia played a key role, reaching base three times.

The Blue Raiders have collected five weekly awards this season, with Ansley Blevins earning Conference USA Player of the Week honors and both Jana Want and Leila Ammon securing two Freshman of the Week accolades each.

Scouting the opponent

Liberty – The 2025 Liberty Flames enter the series ranked 22nd in the country and hold a 31-7 record while going 11-0 in Conference USA play. The Blue Raiders hold a 3-6 record vs. the Flames and dropped the three-game series last season. Liberty is led by head coach Dot Richardson who has turned around the program since she was named head coach in 2013. A season ago, Liberty won both the CUSA regular season and tournament titles in their first year in the conference. The Flames offense is led by Rachel Roupe who has amassed 15 home runs and holds a .863 slugging percentage this season. Their pitching staff is led by Elena Escobar who holds a 13-3 record with a 1.98 ERA.
