MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee soccer program has signed three additional midfield student-athletes to its 2025 roster, as announced by head coach Aston Rhoden Thursday. The addition includes two transfers in graduate students Sandra Segovia del Hoyo and Ximena Jauregui and freshman Maaja Fischer.
Sandra Segovia del Hoyo | Midfielder | Aquinas College | Valencia, Spain
Segovia del Hoyo appeared in 78 games for the Saints during her time in Nashville, earning 3,803 minutes of game action in her tenure. The midfielder tallied eight goals as a Saint, along with five additional goal contributions in assists. The Spain native helped lead Aquinas to four-straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season titles from 2021-24, as well as three WHAC tournament titles in 2021, 2022 and 2024. Thanks to the success on the field, Segovia del Hoyo played in the NAIA Nationals Tournament all four years with Aquinas, earning the WHAC Champion of Character award in her final season in Nashville.
She also saw success off the pitch, being named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2023 and 2024, as well as earning a nod to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in those seasons. She was a member of the Sigma Beta Delta Honors Society and graduated from Aquinas with Magna Cum Laude honors. To cap off her academic success, Segovia del Hoyo received the Daktronics Award in 2023 and 2024.
"I chose MTSU because it gives me the chance to keep playing the game I love at the NCAA Division I level while earning my MBA," said Segovia del Hoyo. "After four years in the NAIA, I was ready to challenge myself in a more competitive environment and keep pushing my limits as a player. I'm excited to grow within a strong soccer program, represent MTSU on the field and keep preparing for a career in the sports industry. This opportunity means a lot to me and I can't wait to get started."
"Sandra is an experienced box to box center midfielder," said coach Rhoden. "She has strong technical skills, a good passing range and plays well in transitional moments. Her knowledge, versatility and experience will be an asset to the midfield block."
Ximena Jauregui | Forward/Midfielder | Florida Tech | Cancun, Mexico
Jauregui most recently played as a midfielder at Florida Tech, helping lead the team to 13 wins, a Sunshine State Conference regular season championship and an SSC tournament title. She earned her first award as a member of the Panthers in the opening week of competition, being voted the SSC Offensive Player of the Week. Following a great season, she was named to the All-SSC First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team.
Jauregui played her sophomore and junior seasons at Bellevue University and racked up the awards as a Bruin. Her junior campaign saw her named Bellevue Female Athlete of the Year, Continental Athletic Conference Player of the Year, All-CAC First Team and All-Tournament Team at the CAC Championships. The Mexico native shared the team lead with 11 goals and led the program with 33 points and 11 assists while starting all 16 games for the Bruins.
She was just as successful in her sophomore season and was named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, Bellevue's first since 2011. She was also named CAC Player of the Year, earning All-CAC First Team honors as well as one of just six Bruins to start all 19 games on the season. Her eight goals, 11 assists and 27 points secured her a nod to the Omaha World-Herald NAIA/DIII All-Midlands Team and led Bellevue to the 2022 CAC Championship. Jauregui was named CAC Defensive Player of the Week in weeks one and four and was voted Offensive Player of the Week in weeks two and six.
The newest Blue Raider began her collegiate career at Ohio Valley University in the fall of 2021, guiding the program to become regular season and tournament conference champions. Jauregui was named the Defensive Player of the Year in her first campaign, voted to the All-Conference First Team as well.
In the classrooms, Jauregui is a dedicated student-athlete, being named CSC Second Team Academic All-American in 2023, Academic All-District and a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete.
"I chose MSU because of the development and the success the soccer program has had over the years," said Jauregui. "Also because of the coaches, their background and their vision for the team. I look forward to making meaningful and deep friendships for the rest of my professional career where I can grow and continue improving as a person and a footballer."
"Ximena is a very creative player who can play in central or wide areas," coach Rhoden said of the graduate student. "She has a high soccer IQ and is good at creating goals for herself and her teammates. Her experience at the collegiate level will be an asset to our attacking unit."
Maaja Fischer | Midfielder | Waterloo United League 1 Ontario Women | Ontario, Canada
Fischer is set to join the program as an incoming freshman from Ontario, Canada. In the 2024 First Touch Football Grad rankings, she was ranked No. 20 and was voted the OPSM Collegiate Combine Showcase MVP in the same year. The 2020 Athlete of the Year helped lead the Waterloo United League 1 Ontario Women's team to the League 1 U21 Reserve Championship and the U19 Reserve finals in 2023, also being named the FTF Winter Combine Midfielder MVP. After competing in the 2025 OPSM Collegiate Combine Showcase, she was once again named the MVP.
Fischer attended Northview Heights Secondary School and was named to the honor roll for her academics. She was also named an Ontario Scholar, earning the 2024 APGA Graduation Award as well.
"MTSU stood out to me because of its challenging atmosphere," said Fischer. "After speaking with the coaches, I decided to attend MTSU as they are very passionate about the game and have lots of experience. The program also provides so much support for student-athletes, making it a very good fit for me. I look forward to accomplishing an undergraduate degree in physical education and minoring in secondary education."
"Maaja is a solid all-around midfielder who plays both sides of the ball really well," said Rhoden. "She is strong on the ball, has a good passing range and can score goals from inside and outside the box. Maaja's versatility will make us more flexible in the midfield."
