An admitted drug dealer described how he operates to Shelbyville police after his arrest Friday of last week for cocaine possession.
Two detectives checking a Bethany Lane residence for a wanted man found a running, unattended vehicle registered to James Omar Hicks, 41, of Madison, Tennessee. A strong smell of marijuana wafted from an open window, the report said.
Hicks allegedly came outside, then began running when Detective Cody Swift found crack cocaine inside the car. Hicks gave up his attempt to flee after crossing a creek as additional officers arrived, Officer Brock Horner’s report said.
Police confiscated 4.3 grams of crack cocaine and more than $1,800 from Hicks’ clothing and car. Hicks is on parole until 2025 for a previous drug conviction, police said.
Hicks told Detective Nathan Everhart he has been purchasing cocaine in Nashville and reselling it in Shelbyville, staying with friends or in motels until selling out. He then returns to Nashville for more drugs, the report said.
Charges of evading arrest and possession of a schedule II drug were filed. Hicks was held without bond due to a child support warrant served on his arrival at Bedford County Jail.
