Nelle Powell Mahaffey, 96, of Wartrace died September 21, 2021. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 29th, at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M.
The family of Nelle Powell Mahaffey is saddened to announce her death. She was never happier than wandering the farm with cattle, horses, buffalo and even ostriches. Her favorite pet was her peacock Buddy. Nelle had a wonderful love of life and adventure. She is a former owner of the Wartrace Walking Horse Hotel in Wartrace.
She was married to Findley Mahaffey. Both Findley and Nelle were well known in the Wartrace community as hard-working farmers, ranchers and business people.
Nelle was preceded in death by her parents, Buford Doris Powell and Edna Lera Powell, a daughter, Judith Hydeman and a grandson, Cody Walker.
She is survived by her husband, Findley Mahaffey; children, Mike Walker of Murfreesboro, Terry Walker of Tullahoma, Jane Jakes of Oxford, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Brent Walker, Thaddeus Walker, Lera Williams, Alissa Shearer, Jennifer Crooks, Geoffrey Crooks, William Jakes, Kelly Jakes and seven grandchildren.
