After Day 1 of the individual District 8-AAA tournament was canceled due to rain, the courts at H.V. Griffin Park were packed all day Friday for a marathon of 95 matches.
For Shelbyville Central, it was No. 1 singles seed Ainsley Noel who made the best trek of the afternoon and battled her way to the individual district championship match against Lincoln County's Lucy Higgins.
While Noel put up a solid effort, eventually Higgins claimed the individual 8-AAA title, defeating Noel, 7-5, 6-1.
Noel got her first win of the day by defeating Tullahoma's Laila Lusk in convincing fashion, 8-0.
She followed with another big win over Franklin County's Chloe Daugherty, 8-2.
Her final win that earned her a spot in the individual tournament championship match came in a 6-1,6-2 victory over Coffee County's Gracie Wix.
While Noel came up short in the title match, her appearance in the match earned her a berth in the region tournament, which will be held in Murfreesboro on May 17.
