The boys of summer had an outstanding spring back in 2009 when Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagles won the District 8-AAA regular season championship after rolling past visiting Columbia 12-1 on a Sunday afternoon.

That's quite an accomplishment considering the Eagles finished at the bottom of the district during the 2008 season.

The turnaround from worst to first can be attributed to a number of factors.

"First off these guys have worked extremely hard," then Shelbyville coach Brad Frasier said.

"Our pitching staff is much stronger. We have more experience and our role players are doing their job."

The Eagles are undefeated at home, winning 11-straight games and have won their 14 of their last 15 games.

Kentucky signee Jordan Cooper turned in five strong innings, pitching a no-hitter, while striking out six and walking three.

The Eagles pitched back-to-back no-hitters as junior Hunter Brothers didn't give up a hit at La Vergne in their last game.

Shelbyville's offense was clicking on all cylinders while the defense didn't make an error.

The Eagles banged out 11 hits, including three doubles.

Senior catcher Connor Tracy led the way with a double and a pair of singles in three trips to the plate.

Brothers ripped a double and single. Michael Watkins smashed a double. Will Trice and Cooper each collected a pair of singles. Andrew Key added a single and three RBIs.

Shelbyville scored a pair of runs in the first inning off four hits then erupted for 10 runs in the third off six hits, three Columbia errors and a hit batter.

"This was an important game for us. These guys knew they were playing for a regular season district title and the top seed in the tournament. They also wanted top keep that undefeated record at home intact." Frasier said. "This district is so competitive and any team can win on any given night. The district tournament should be very exciting."

Both Shelbyville and Columbia had an opening-round bye in the 8-AAA tournament.

Even though their dream came to an end without a state tournament appearance, the Eagles had a great season, finishing the regular season with a perfect 12-0 home record that included winning 15 of their last 16 regular season games.
