FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes (16-11, 6-4) traveled to Page on Friday night in the Region 5-AAAA Quarterfinals to take on the Lady Patriots (25-7, 11-3), but were unable to pull an upset for the second-consecutive season, falling 64-46.

The Eaglettes ended Page’s season a year ago on the road, 34-28, but this time the Lady Patriots came out ready to make a statement, outscoring Shelbyville 38-16 in the middle two quarters to pull away.

Lanaya Young’s career as an Eaglette came to a close despite her scoring a game-high 20 points on the night, and she was joined in double figures by Yasmine McFarland with 10 points. Unfortunately for Shelbyville, their recent games of shooting free throws at a high percentage came to a close as well, as the Eaglettes shot just 46% (12-26) from the charity stripe.

For Page, Samantha Lee led the way with a team-high 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half. Mary Elizabeth Fox chipped in with 11 points to join Lee in double-figures.

To start, the Lady Patriots came out on fire from the field, knocking down a pair of threes as a team and converting on a pair of old-fashioned three-point-plays as well to get the home crowd riled up. Lee led the way with eight points in the period to give Page an 18-10 lead after one while McFarland led Shelbyville with four points, including a triple. She went just 1-4 at the charity stripe in the quarter, however, foreshadowing the struggles Shelbyville would experience throughout the remainder of the game.

In the second quarter, Page kept their foot on the gas pedal, outscoring Shelbyville by 15 points, 19-4, to take a commanding 37-14 lead going into the halftime locker room. The Eaglettes could not contain Lee, as the Lady Patriots star scored nine points in the period. Miah Cabale knocked down two of her three triples in the second quarter alone while Young and Jada Berry, who finished with eight points on the night, could only muster up a pair of field goals between them.

Coming out for the second half, Page did not let up, scoring 19 points again in the third quarter as eight different players scored at least two points in the period to grow their lead to 56-26 going into the final frame. Shelbyville shot 16 free throws in the third quarter alone, but could only connect on eight of them. Young led the Eaglettes with seven points in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the result was well in hand despite Shelbyville outscoring Page, 20-8, to make the final score look a little closer, 64-46. Young scored nine points in her final quarter of high school basketball while McFarland scored four points of her own.

Page improves to 25-7 (11-3) and advances to play the number one ranked team in the state, Coffee County, in Manchester on Monday night.

Shelbyville Central’s season comes to a close in the Region 5-AAAA Quarterfinal Round at 16-11 (6-4) in the first year of the Keshia Jarrett era.
