UNIONVILLE - District 12-AA wins and walk-offs go together for the Community Vikings.

Evan Petrie blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Vikings came back from a two-run deficit to defeat the Marshall County Tigers 5-4 in a district baseball matchup Tuesday night.

It was the third district win of the season for Community (17-11, 3-7) with all three victories coming at home in the final at-bat.

"I didn't know whether to bunt him over, but at that point, you've just got to trust your senior," Coach Robbie Davis of the Vikings said.

The Vikings used two hits to take the lead in the opening inning.

A Jacob Cooper single and Will Reed double put two runners in scoring position.

After a walk to Petrie, Jackson Bailey put the Vikings ahead with an RBI-ground out.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second on a two-out, two-run double.

Marshall County upped its advantage to 3-1 in the top of the third inning as a runner from third scored during a rundown between first and second.

Community scored once in the bottom of the inning.

A Reed walk followed by a Dylan Norris single and a wild pitch set the stage for a RBI-ground out by Petrie as the Tiger lead was narrowed to 3-2.

The Vikings loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the fifth, but three strikeouts after a Tiger pitching change kept the score at 3-2.

The Tigers scored once in the top of the sixth as a Viking throwing error during a stolen base attempt gave Marshall County a 4-2 lead.

The score remained 4-2 until the bottom of the seventh.

Reed led off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball.

Norris reached base on a Tiger throwing error, allowing Reed to score and cutting the Marshall County lead to 4-3.

Petrie worked the count to 2-2 before his blast cleared the left field fence and sent the Vikings to a win in their final regular season district game.

Cooper and Reed each had two hits for the Vikings.

Norris started on the mound for the Vikings with Corey Paterick picking up the win after coming on in relief in the fourth inning.

"If you paid to see more home games, you got your money's worth," Davis said. "We've hit more home runs this season as a team than any team I've ever had."

"It's not just one or two guys," Davis added.

Davis is looking for good things in the upcoming district tournament.

"Other than Nolensville at the top, everybody else is within a game or two of each other," Davis said.

"That was our third district win, but we've got three losses by one run."

"We had an opportunity to be closer to the top ourselves," Davis added.

Community is scheduled to play at Eagleville on Thursday and Tullahoma on Friday before returning home for Senior Day on Saturday against Fairview.
