Poplin Memorial History Award winners named

The Bedford County Historical Society has announced the winners of the 2022 Poplin Memorial History Award at each of the county’s three public high schools.

•Cascade High School’s honoree is Caroline Jean Stone, daughter of Jody and Susan Stone. Besides her outstanding academic achievement in numerous honors and dual-enrollment courses, Caroline participated in a variety of extracurricular activities, including the Interact Club, Student Council, and varsity softball and soccer. Her community citizenship and service included volunteering as kids’ sports camps, Haven of Hope, and the Bell Buckle Moonpie Festivals. Caroline is planning a career in nursing. Guidance Counselor Debbie Watkins administered the applications.
•Cayden Puckett, son of Josh and Erin Puckett, is the honoree at Shelbyville Central High School. Cayden excelled in history and government studies and a variety of other academics. He participated in numerous school activities, including special needs student assistance, home improvement projects, Veterans Day ceremonies, and library community days. Cayden plans to pursue a career in athletics. Guidance Counselor Tracey Perryman administered the applications.
•Community High School’s honoree is Breanna Whitaker, daughter of Chad and Beverly Whitaker. Breanna excelled in several honors and dual-enrollment courses. Her extracurricular activities included varsity basketball and golf, Key Club, and FCA. She volunteered for several community projects, including Leadership Bedford, Manna Missions, and food booths at the TWHNC. Breanna plans to become a nurse anesthetist. Guidance Counselor Casey Couch administered the applications.

These $1,000 awards are funded by donations from Society members and memorials from the public. The Historical Society salutes these outstanding graduates for achieving this major milestone, and urges them to go forward and make more history in their communities and careers.
