Vietnam War Purple Heart Recipient Ralph Earl Dietz, age 74, of Shelbyville, passed from this life on August 23, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Born January 6, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, Ralph was the son of the late William Dietz and Mary Thomas Dietz. Ralph enlisted in the US Army and served in Vietnam as a jungle fighter and tanker. He was wounded in action on March 21st 1969 and awarded the Purple Heart on July 18th 2002. He wore many hats throughout his life, he was a project and electrical engineer, fireman, boxer, paramedic, and bouncer. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife of 20 years, Heather Marie Moore Dietz.
He loved being outdoors on his ranch, observing animals, and working on projects around his home. He was also a talented writer and loved to write poetry. He enjoyed collecting glassware, antiques, and participating in the Veterans Day parade by showing off the Vietnam Era Veterans float, an event he looked forward to every year.
Including his wife, he is survived by his fur babies, Sundae, Oreo, Phantom, and Arlo. Also, extended family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, by his brothers, George Dietz, and Don Dietz.
Ralph's wishes were for his remains to be cremated and his ashes will be scattered on his ranch. No public services will be held.
