Funeral services for Raymond Duran Shavers, age 75. of Shelbyville will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Fair Haven Baptist Church with Pastors Peter Allen and Mike Lovvorn officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Duran passed from this life Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Vanderbilt-Bedford Hospital.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 4th, at Fair Haven Baptist Church.
Born July 8, 1947, in Lewisburg, Duran was the son of the late Lee Archie and Alice Wilson Shavers. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Chance Shavers; and step-mother, Frances Bingham Shavers.
Duran was a 1966 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School and attended MTSU. He worked as a Revenue Enforcement Officer for the state of Tennessee, having retired after 38 years of service. He was a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher, and was a 48-year member of the Optimist Club where he served in many positions from secretary to president. He was also a 50+ year member of the Boy Scouts, serving as a Scout Leader, Eagle Scout, and receiving the Good Shepard Award. He was an elementary substitute teacher for 8 years with the Bedford County School System. In his free time he was an avid fisherman, hunter and he enjoyed driving his Jeep.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia Swing Shavers; children, Dreonn (Chris) Sintic and Bubba (Mary Leta) Shavers; and grandchildren, Mary-Alice Shavers, Kathleen Sintic and Mason Shavers, all of Shelbyville.
Memorial donations may be made in Duran’s name to a charity of Choice.
