Robert W. “Bob” Scruggs, 86, of Shelbyville, passed from this life on Saturday, October 29, 2022, after an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Father Michael Blaes, Maggie Vaughn and George Edward Spain officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.
Born February 27, 1936, Bob was the son of the late Guy Walker Scruggs and Lois Neeley Clark, both of Bedford County. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Anne White Scruggs; and grandson, Bryant Hardison.
He was known for his many talents, intellect, work ethic, and his respect for others. For a career, Robert was a talented writer; he wrote for the Walking Horse Report, owned and operated the Bell Buckle Echo and reported for the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. As for talents, a musical heart and mind was his vector. He played piano professionally, having played and recorded music with various artists that included Dolly Parton. He also played the organ in the Episcopal Church along with the Presbyterian Church, both in Shelbyville.  He devoted his free time to various organizations. He was a member of Bell Buckle Merchants Association, Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Gilliland House, Tony Rice Center Board, and served as Director of COTAO Homeless & Hurting Ministry of Shelbyville.
He enjoyed hobbies outside of his career; such as Goodwill store thrifting, storytelling, and genealogy. He also appreciated the little things that brought him joy; circus peanut candies, Gucci shoes and always having Chapstick in his pocket.
He is survived by daughters, Fabienne Entenza Laveau of Virginia, Adrienne Hickman of Shelbyville and Christienne (Albert) Lawyer of North Carolina; step-children, Kreis (Jennifer) White of Nashville, George (Rosemary) White of Florida, and Lisa (Dan) White of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kyla, Angel, Nikki, Lindsey, Jillian, Peytan, Nichole, Annie, Ryan, Aaron, Allison, Elizabeth, Matthew, Joshua and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Josh, Bella, Logan, Luke, Jameson, Grayson, Olivia and Lillian.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
