CHAPEL HILL — What could have been a big first inning for Community on Tuesday night at Forrest was limited by the Rocket defense and Forrest, in turn, was able to rely on two big innings to down Community for the third meeting this season, 9-2.
Jumped on Forrest starter Brennan Mealer with walks by Maki Fleming and Mason Russell, and bates hits by Dylan Norris and Corey Paterick, taking a 1-0 lead.
But a strikeout by Mealer and a double play by the Rocket infield ended the early Viking threat.
Forrest then plated one run in the bottom of the first inning on a passed ball.
The Vikings answered in the top of the third inning and once again took a one-run lead when Russell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, with two outs.
But once again, the two-out hit eluded the Vikings and the Rockets ended the threat, stranding three runners on base.
Forrest then went on to plate five runs in the bottom of the inning and tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth to take the seven-run, Game 3 victory over the Vikings.
Community was limited to just four hits, with Paterick going 2-for-3.
Blaine Paschal went five innings for Community, allowing eight runs on six hits, while striking out three.
Gage Underwood pitched one inning in relief and allowed one run on two hits.
