Several teachers show support for Josh Young

Principal dismissed from Cascade High

Since the printing of the T-G story this morning on the dismissal of Cascade High principal Josh Young, several Cascade faculty members and staff have reached out to the T-G and stated that they fully support their principal and are asking for his reinstatement.

Cascade High teacher Christy Dawson was one willing to go on record today and stated that she's in full support of Principal Young.

" As someone with direct knowledge of the situation, I would like to inform you that this is a completely false statement; in fact, it is the perfect example of "fake news". The vast majority of the faculty and staff here at Cascade High School are HEARTBROKEN and angry about this decision- and for me, I am also bewildered and shocked. I did not see this coming at all, and for good reason- this administration is the best one BY FAR that I have worked for in all my years of teaching. I cannot in my wildest imagination think of anything that could possibly warrant this very drastic decision that was made by the superintendent. And in talking with many of my fellow teachers and staff, it seems no one else can understand this, either.

As a reporter, why didn't you talk to more of us faculty and staff before you wrote your story? Since when are one or two "anonymous sources" sufficient to post such a serious and damning statement as the one I referenced above? Had you spoken with a larger sample of us- and had you VERIFIED that your sources are indeed faculty and staff of the school- your findings for your story would have been very different. Shame on you for not doing your due diligence as a reporter. It is reporters like you who help to create the enormous distrust that so many of us Americans have for "news" and the mainstream media in general. YOU SHOULD BE REPORTING THE TRUTH!!!!!"

The T-G welcomes any comments regarding Young's dismissal.

BCS statement on Young

A statement was received late Tuesday afternoon from central office regarding the dismissal.

On Monday, May 16, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tammy Garrett met with the Cascade High School administrative team to inform them that changes would be made in the principal and assistant principal positions for the 2022-23 school year. The faculty was also informed.

“Very difficult decisions are part of the job of effectively leading a school district,” explained Garrett. “I want our administrators to be successful and above all, I always want what’s best for students. My decision in this matter is rooted in that priority. Matching the right people to the right positions best serves our staff and our students in the long run.

”Cascade High School Principal Dr. Josh Young and Assistant Principal Brad Davis have been offered other administrative positions in the county. This is a personnel decision, so detailed comments cannot be provided. It’s very difficult to make these types of decisions, and I don’t take them lightly or without immense consideration,” said Garrett. “I ask that you trust us to always do what’s right for the students of Bedford County Schools.”
