Director of Schools Dr. Tammy Garrett and Shelbyville Central High School Principal Rebecca Tidwell are excited to announce the hiring of new head coaches for the Eaglette and Golden Eagle basketball programs.

"The SCHS basketball program has a rich history of success and we are very excited to have two coaches that understand that history and are willing to embrace it," commented Garrett. "We are looking forward to seeing the success Coach Kyle Turnham and Coach Kody Howard will bring to both of these outstanding programs."

Kyle Turnham will be taking over as the head coach for the Eaglette basketball program.

He has over 33 years of experience coaching both boys' and girls' basketball at the high school and collegiate levels and most recently completed his sixth season as head coach for the girls' program at Central Magnet. Prior to being the head coach, he served as the assistant under Steve Wiley for four seasons.

During this time, the team earned the title of District 8-AA Tournament Champions, were runners up in the Region 4-AA Tournament and had two players named to the TSWA Class AA All-State Team. Throughout his career, Coach Turnham has earned the honor of being named TSSAA District 7- AAA Coach of the Year, TJCCAA Eastern Division Coach of the Year, and TJCCAA Coach of the Year.

"The enthusiasm and respect that Coach Turnham has for the Eaglette basketball program and its incredible history is evident from the moment you meet him," stated Tidwell.

"We are excited for his passion and knowledge of the game to come together and produce a solid and successful program at SCHS." Turnham, a native of Middle Tennessee said, "I can't begin to tell you how honored I am to be the new head coach of the Eaglettes. I am beyond humbled by the confidence that Dr. Garrett, Mrs. Tidwell and the SCHS administration have placed in me to lead this proud program. When you look at the history and tradition of this program and combine it with our dynamic new leadership, along with an incredibly supportive community, you quickly realize what a tremendous opportunity this is."

Kody Howard, a Dyer County native, will be joining the Shelbyville Central staff as the head boys' coach after one season as an assistant coach at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas. Prior to that Howard spent six seasons as an AAU and high school coach at multiple stops throughout West Tennessee, including head boys' basketball coach at Chester County High School in Henderson, Tennessee, and assistant coach at his alma mater Dyersburg High School, in Dyersburg.

Howard was the Dyersburg Middle School coach in 2018-19, leading them to a North West Tennessee Tournament Championship, a 17-3 overall record and being named the North West Tennessee Middle School Coach of the Year. During the 2017-2018 season, Howard helped lead Dyersburg High School to a 23-5 (10-0) overall record, and a second consecutive undefeated District 13AA Regular Season Championship, which marked a two-year, 49-8 (20-0) combined record. Prior to Dyersburg, Howard served two seasons as the head boys' basketball coach at Lake County High School in Tiptonville.

Rebecca Tidwell stated, "The experience and energy that Coach Howard brings to the court is certain to lead the boys' program to heightened success. We are excited for the future here at Shelbyville Central." "I am extremely honored and appreciative of this opportunity to lead this basketball program," commented Howard.

"I want to thank the administration for believing in me. Day in and day out we will pride ourselves on being the hardest working and most disciplined team we can be. If we take care of those things on a daily basis, success will come."
