A Pennsylvania man claiming ownership of the land at the Dollar General Store on South Cannon Boulevard was charged with criminal trespassing Tuesday night.

Edward William Lanigan, 68, of Russellton, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh), allegedly refused store personnel’s requests to leave, Shelbyville police said.

“He became angry and loud and became very irate, cursing and yelling that it was his land and he did not have to go anywhere,” Officer Darren Jenkins said in his report.

Police cleared trash and personal items Lanigan left behind the store after charging him. Lanigan was held on $1,000 bond.
