The Memorial Day weekend forecast is not looking good with a chance of showers and thunderstorms every day and that is not only through Monday but probably through the end of May and the first few days of June. The spring tornado season is coming to a close and it has been a rough one across the Volunteer state. A preliminary total of 29 tornadoes have touched down across the state since January 1st. These tornadoes combined have killed 28 people, injured hundreds more, and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.

The strongest was an EF-4 in Putnam County on March 18th with 19 people killed. The March 3rd EF-3 tornado in Davidson and Wilson counties caused 5 fatalities. An EF-3 on April 12th near Chattanooga caused 3 fatalities.

As May ends and we go into June, the tornado season will be replaced by the lightning season with cloud-to-ground lightning strikes the big danger through August.
