To the Editor:

We are entering the season of giving, but in October several groups got a head start by giving their time and talents for United Way of Bedford County's "Day of Caring".

Newell Brands, Jostens, Tennova Healthcare-Shelbyville and First Community Bank all were active working with UWBC partners on needed maintenance and cleaning.

Work crews spent the morning at several partners -- Senior Citizens Center, First Choice Pregnancy, Community Development Center, the Bedford County 4-H extension office, Caregiver Relief, Haven of Hope and the Great Strides Therapeutic Riding Program.

All four groups are always willing to help UWBC in so many of our endeavors. we are honored and greatly appreciative of the willingness of these companies to step up and be vital part of our work.

The question to be asked locally is what you are doing to make your community a better place. These companies answered by sending a small army of workers to help.

In addition to the workers Tyson Foods was a star once again serving a delicious and bountiful buffet of fried chicken, green beans and macaroni and cheese. The meal, which is provided for workers as well as all supporters of UWBC, is always the highlight of the day, Tyson Foods always comes through for UWBC and we can never thank them enough.

The work crews were able to provide ample assistance, but the need for such services is great in Shelbyville and Bedford County.

We also want to thank the Shelbyville Times-Gazette for its support of UWBC with great coverage of our events.

The United Way of Bedford County board members invite all companies to plan on being a part of this great day next October.

Thanks again to all of those who helped gather workers in their respective companies and to make sure they were placed where they were needed.

So much can be done in this community to improve the quality of life for many. Your support of United Way of Bedford County helps us provide vital funding to our non-profit partners who are serving people in need.

Thanks again to all,

Mark McGee

Executive Director

United Way of Bedford County
