Live music, featuring the band St. Paul and The Broken Bones, returns April 23 and 24 to The Caverns Above Ground Amphitheater in Grundy County. In an effort to social distance, the venue plans to station its concert-goers outside in hillside pods overlooking scenic Payne Cove.
The safety protocol, during this continuous COVID-19 season, is for The Caverns guests to arrive on that Friday and Saturday at staggered time frames. Guests will be expected to first undergo a COVID-19 screening checklist, which includes a temperature check, and once cleared, concert-goers will be free to watch the show from 2-person, 4-person or 6-person socially-distanced pods.
Those guest pods will be spaced apart a minimum of 6 feet for social distancing purposes. There will also be 13-foot paths designed between each.
Organizers note this is a BYOC event, which means at The Caverns, bring your own chair. Masks will be mandatory outside the pods.
All concessions and merchandise will be ordered via app and delivered in order for there to be less guest contact via lines. Available restrooms will be inside The Caverns, which will still give guests an opportunity to duck below the surface to see the world-famous, subterranean music venue.
Concert organizers said recently that the highest priority of The Caverns is the safety of guests, crew and artists. To remain as such, the venue stated how it is following health safety guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the State of Tennessee for its reopening.
For several years, the Caverns has been a world-renowned destination for underground live music and home of the Emmy-winning PBS TV series, "Bluegrass Underground." Last October, The Caverns opened its new above ground venue, The Caverns Above Ground Amphitheater, in an effort to bring back live music in a responsible way with outdoor, socially distanced concerts.
Due to COVID-19, St. Paul and The Broken Bones, an American, eight-piece soul band based in Birmingham, Ala., has had to deal with the 2020 pandemic, like a lot of fellow music groups. "It has been a long winter for all of us," says Paul Janeway, the band's lead vocalist. "We are so excited to get back to playing safe shows again. We remember when we got to play inside The Caverns not too long ago. What a fun and unique show!"
Since forming in 2012, St. Paul and The Broken Bones has released three albums and two mini albums or extended play (Eps.) The group is famous for having recorded such songs over the years as "Champagne Halloween" and "NASA."
