‘Three Dog Night’ – not the band – may be coming

We have a threat of rain and snow this weekend but it is going to be a borderline system so keep up with the latest forecast because a slight shift in the movement of the low pressure could bring us winter weather.

It is likely that we will get rain and snow Saturday and Sunday. I am seeing some very cold air coming up after Jan. 20. We could see temperatures staying below freezing for several days at least which would be likely to freeze water pipes.

Did you know the musical group Three Dog Night from the early ‘70s got their name from something weather-related?

Vocalist Danny Hutton’s girlfriend suggested the name after reading a magazine article about Aboriginal Australians, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground while embracing a dingo, a native species of wild dog.

On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and, if the night were freezing, it was a “three dog night.  The weather after the 20th will certainly qualify as Three Dog Nights!
