Looks like a typical summertime weekend ahead with partly cloudy days and a 30 percent chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. High temperatures will be around 90 and lows near 68. Make a note on your calendar for the night of August 12 and the early morning hours of the 13th as one of the biggest meteor showers of the year can be seen if we can keep the clouds away. The Perseids Meteor Shower is one of the best to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, which was discovered in 1862.

The Perseids are famous for producing a large number of bright meteors. The crescent moon will set early in the evening, leaving dark skies for what should be an excellent show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight and looking North but can appear anywhere in the sky. Drop me an e-mail any time with your questions or comments, weather1@charter.net.
