HUNTLAND – The Community Vikings scored early and often and set a season high-water mark for points as the Vikings downed the Huntland Hornets 83-50 in a basketball contest Tuesday night.

Community (3-2) wasted little time gaining the upper hand in the opening quarter. Jackson Bailey scored 11 points from around the basket while Stratton Lovvorn canned three treys as the Vikings took a 26-14 lead after one quarter.

The second quarter was a carbon copy of the first as Community once again outscored the Hornets 26-14.

Lovvorn maintained his hot hand with 10 points while Will Reed added seven as the Vikings took a 52-28 lead into the intermission.

Huntland made up two points by outscoring the Vikings 14-12 in the third quarter. Community took a 64-42 advantage to the final period.

Noah Newkirk led the way with five points while Bailey and Lovvorn scored four points each as the Vikings extended their lead en route to the win.

Bailey and Lovvorn had 23 points each as eight Vikings tallied points in the game.

Micah Millraney scored 15 points while Braylen Phillips added 12 for the Hornets.

The Vikings were good on 10 treys with Lovvorn connecting on six of the three-pointers.

Community travels to MTCS Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
