UNIONVILLE — The Community Vikings made the most of their final regular season game as the Vikings celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 victory over the Cannon County Lions in a District 6-A matchup Tuesday.
Community (5-4-1, 3-2-1) stayed on the Lion end of the field for most of the contest and found itself with several scoring chances throughout the game.
The Vikings wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard as Coy Rogers rebounded a shot home just two minutes into the game to give Community a 1-0 lead.
Ramon Hernandez drilled a shot into the back of the net off a corner from Randy Anica with 21 minutes remaining in the first half as the Vikings upped their lead to 2-0.
Randy Anica scored just four minutes later as the Vikings ended the half with a 3-0 advantage.
The Vikings had several near misses but could only muster one goal in the second half as Randy Anica made a one-on-one move to score and end the scoring for the night.
Meanwhile, keeper and lone senior Villamar Anica allowed no goals in 60 minutes before taking a turn on offense.
Coach Jesse Cooper of the Vikings allowed a wish from Villamar Anica to come true on Senior Night for Villamar and his four cousins, all named Anica.
"Senior Night gave Villamar a chance to play with all his cousins on the field at the same time," Cooper said. "I thought I would grant him that wish."
Community began district tournament play Friday night by hosting Forrest at 5:30 p.m.
