CORNERSVILLE — The Community Vikings were sitting with a firm lead on Monday at Cornersville before storms blanketed the area, leading to the eventual cancelation of the game against the Bulldogs.
The first three batters all reached base for Community and helped the Vikings take immediate control of the scoreboard.
Maki Fleming singled to left to lead off the game and was followed on base by Corey Paterick, who reached via error.
Mason Russell drove in Fleming on a single to left and Paterick then scored on a passed ball.
The Vikings got two more runs on a sac-fly by Dylan Norris and Gage Underwood plated the fourth Community run of the inning on a Bulldog error.
Blaine Paschal only got one inning under his belt before the game was called, but was able to work out of early-game trouble.
A one-out single, followed by a pair of Community errors allowed the Bulldogs to put two runners on, but the Viking defense was able to end the threat by catching Bulldog base runner Daniel Sellars in a rundown for the final out.
Following the the tag out in the rundown, lightning was spotted, prompting the game to be put on a delay.
With the ensuing rains, the game was eventually called.
