UNIONVILLE – The Community Vikings scored at a torrid pace and piled up a huge halftime lead en route to an 85-34 victory over the Huntland Hornets in a basketball tilt Wednesday night.

Community (10-0) took turns with two teams of five in the first half as the Vikings made it a perfect 10 in wins for the season.

"We mixed it up tonight and this is how we do it in practice sometimes," Coach Robbie Davis of the Vikings said. "We break up the first group and this is their scrimmage against each other."

Jackson Bailey scored seven points while Stratton Lovvorn, Corde Lane, and Elijah Pope each had six as eight different Vikings scored in the opening quarter. Community scored the final 14 points in a span of two minutes, 35 seconds to take a commanding 35-11 lead.

Lovvorn scored six points while Bailey and Evan Petrie had five each as the Vikings increased their lead in the second quarter. Community outscored the Hornets 19-11 and led 54-22 at the break.

Community increased its advantage in the third quarter. Tyrese Eady and Petrie had six points each while Alex Mitchell added five as the Vikings outscored Huntland 27-9 and took an 81-31 advantage to the final quarter.

The quarter went fast with a running clock as the Vikings closed out the win.

Bailey scored 15 points to lead five Vikings in double figures. Petrie had 13 points and Lovvorn netted 12. Pope scored 11 points and Mitchell had 10 as 10 Vikings scored in the contest.

Dylan Schultz led Huntland with 11 points.

"It was a good win. It was good to get a lot of guys in the game," Davis said.

"When you get a chance to play in a high school basketball game, it's an opportunity," Davis added.

The Vikings finished with 10 treys, but were only 7-of-23 at the free throw line.

"It's a problem. We have a hard time making free throws," Davis said. "As good as we played on offense for three quarters, 7-of-23 from the line is just not good enough for a high school basketball team."

Community hosts Cascade Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
