UNIONVILLE - Dylan Norris drilled a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Community Vikings a 7-5 win over the Central Magnet Tigers in a District 12-AA game Tuesday night.

Community (7-1, 1-1) used three homers to avenge a district defeat to the Tigers on Monday.

"We hadn't hit that many in a season," Coach Robbie Davis of the Vikings said.

"I can't remember the last time we hit that many home runs."

The Tigers scored two times in the top of the second inning with the help of three hits to take a 2-0 lead.

Central Magnet used a run-scoring double in the third inning to increase its lead to 3-0.

After managing just one hit over the first two innings, the Viking offense came to life in the bottom of the third after two were out.

Corey Paterick singled to start the two-out rally.

Will Reed's fly ball to right was dropped for a two-base error, giving the Vikings new life.

Norris drilled a two-run single to cut the Tiger lead to 3-2.

Evan Petrie followed with a two-run homer to give Community the lead at 4-3.

But the Vikings weren't through.

Mason Russell drilled a home run to give the Vikings back-to-back round-trippers and a 5-3 lead.

The Tigers fought back and used two run-scoring singles in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Central Magnet put a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but a running catch near the foul line by right fielder Emery Smith and two strikeouts from relief pitcher Jackson Bailey kept the game tied heading to the bottom of the seventh.

With one out, Reed walked and advanced to second on a stolen base, setting the stage for Norris.

On a 2-1 pitch, Norris slammed the ball over the left field fence with an impending rain on the horizon as the Vikings walked off with the district win.

Norris and Russell each had a home run and single as the first seven batters in the Viking lineup contributed at least one safety.

The Vikings finished with nine hits.

Reed pitched the first five innings with Bailey on in relief to start the sixth inning.

Bailey struck out three and was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.

"We did a really good job of putting the ball into play," Davis said.

"Those guys are getting there. We've had one practice, so we're behind everybody."

Despite several players joining the team late after an extended basketball postseason, the Vikings moved to 7-1 on the season.

"A couple of weeks ago, Will and Jackson were playing at Murphy so our pitchers are way behind," Davis said.

"I knew it was going to be a slow go getting there."

"It's good to win games and move forward because this district's really tough," Davis added.

Community starts play in the Viking Classic with a contest against Hubbard (Ohio) on Thursday in Eagleville. Game time is 4 p.m.
