UNIONVILLE - In their contest against the Nolensville Lady Knights, Coach Cody Pierce's Community Viqueens put on a defensive performance that most coaches can only dream about.

Community (9-10, 4-4) held the district-leading Lady Knights to 14 points after three quarters and only 24 points for the game as the Viqueens defeated Nolensville 36-24 in a District 12-AA basketball matchup Friday night.

The Viqueens never trailed as only three Lady Knights tallied points in the contest.

With Haley Mitchell leading the way with five points and Brianna Beech adding four, the Viqueens made a quick statement in the opening quarter.

Community scored the first seven points while holding the Lady Knights to just four points.

The Viqueens took an 11-4 lead to the second quarter.

The Viqueens could only manage four points in the quarter, but their defense took up the slack.

Nolensville scored five points, with its last points coming with 3:22 left in the quarter.

Neither team could score the rest of the way as Community took a 15-9 lead into the intermission.

It was more of the same defensively in the third quarter.

The Lady Knights only scored five points while the Viqueen offense got hot from three-point territory.

Mitchell connected on a three-pointer while Zoey Dixon sank two treys in succession as Community scored nine straight points to take its biggest lead at 26-12.

The Viqueens took a 26-14 lead to the final quarter.

Nolensville finally reached double digits with 10 points in the quarter, but the Viqueens never let their lead get under nine points.

M.J. Simmons sank all six of her free throws as the Viqueens took the district win.

Mitchell scored 12 points while Simmons added 10 to lead the Viqueens.

Three Lady Knight players each scored eight points to account for all of Nolensville's scoring.

The Viqueens were 8-of-11 at the free throw line while the Lady Knights were 5-of-10.

Community travels to Giles County for a district matchup Tuesday night.

Game time is 6:00 p.m.

***Pierce on his team's smothering defense

We got up in them and defended them and it frustrated them all night. They struggled to hit shots and free throws. When you're physical and play defense, it gets to teams like that."

***Pierce on his team's offensive efficiency

Offensively, we were swinging the ball from side to side and getting good looks out of everybody and not just one player."

***Pierce on his team holding Nolensville scoreless for the final three minutes of the second quarter while starting point guard Brianna Beech was on the bench with foul trouble

We had some players come off the bench and held their own defensively. We had some great minutes out of everybody tonight.

***Pierce on his team's rebounding

We were putting bodies on them and being physical and pulling the rebounds when we really needed them."

***Pierce on his team's three treys in the third quarter

We had some guards hit some huge shots. We've been missing that recently, but they stepped up."

***Pierce on his team's patience

Anytime you come out and jump on them like that, if you just be patient and play solid on defense, you control the whole game.

***Pierce on his lone senior Beech winning on Senior Night

She had a great game tonight. She handled the ball great and was attacking the rim and feeding everybody around her."
