UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens had several shots on goal in the first six minutes of the game that did not find the back of the net, but the floodgates opened after that as the Viqueens scored eight goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 win over the Cannon County Lionettes in the semifinals of the District 6-A soccer tournament Tuesday night.
Community (10-2-1) peppered the Lionette goal during the early part of the game before Cannon County failed to clear a corner kick in front of the net.  Stevie Dickenson took advantage and scored with 33:20 left in the first half to give the Viqueens a 1-0 lead.
The Viqueens started to get in a groove and used effective passing to increase their lead.  Zoey Dixon scored her first goal with an assist from Abby Murrill four minutes later to put Community up 2-0.
The Viqueens added three more goals in a 4-minute span.  Addison Brothers assisted Dickenson and Dixon on goals while Audrina Bearden scored on a cross from Dixon to put Community up 5-0 with 21:37 left in the half.
Bearden and Taylar Wessner added goals to increase the Viqueen lead to 7-0.  Dixon made it a hat trick as she finished the first half scoring on a direct kick with 8:35 remaining to put Community up 8-0.
"Once we got settled in, the shots started going in after we started moving the ball well," Coach Chris Brothers of the Viqueens said. 
After 20 minutes of no goals, Dixon ended the night with a goal on a penalty kick 11 minutes into the second half as the Viqueens advanced to the district championship.        
"Our defense has done really good all year long and we continued on that tonight," Brothers said. 
"They've been amazing back there."     
Community entertains Cascade Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the District 6-A championship.  The teams split a pair of contests in the regular season that were each decided by one goal.
