UNIONVILLE - The Community Viqueens cut a Forrest Lady Rocket 8-point fourth-quarter lead to three in the final minute, but could not get closer as the Viqueens fell 45-42 in a District 12-AA basketball game Tuesday night.

M.J. Simmons scored four points as Community (8-10, 3-4) fell behind in the first quarter and was forced to play catch-up the rest of the night. The Lady Rockets took the lead for good at 9-6 and ended the quarter with an 11-8 advantage.

Kinslee Inlow connected on three treys as Forrest took a 26-17 lead in the second quarter.

Simmons scored 10 points as the Viqueens scored the final six points and trailed 26-23 at halftime.

Simmons scored four points as the Viqueens battled to stay close in the third quarter.

The Lady Rockets outscored Community 12-8 and took a 38-31 lead to the final quarter.

The Lady Rockets increased their lead to 41-32 and led 45-37 with 1:59 remaining before the Viqueens mounted a charge.

A field goal by Simmons coupled with a trey by Breanna Whitaker brought the Viqueens within three at 45-42 with 1:14 left.

Aided by Lady Rocket misses on the front end of 2 one-and-ones, the Viqueens had chances to get closer in the final minute.

Community had one last chance with a throw-in under its basket in the final seconds, but the Viqueens could not connect on a game-tying shot.

Inlow and Laura Mealer each had 14 points to lead the Lady Rockets.

Simmons scored 20 points while Haley Mitchell had 11 to lead the Viqueens.

Forrest was 6-of-8 at the free throw line while the Viqueens were 8-of-10.

The Lady Rockets also connected on seven treys.

"We struggled offensively tonight," Coach Cody Pierce of the Viqueens said.

"Defense was pretty solid, but we were standing too much and just weren't ready to shoot. We were just flat and didn't show up tonight offensively."

"In the end we ran out of gas trying to come back," Pierce added. "We've got to start better."
