EAGLEVILLE — So far this season, the Community Viqueens have shown a propensity of winning the close games against their opponents.
The Viqueens were involved in another close contest Friday night against the Eagleville Lady Eagles, and once again Community came out on top thanks to a strong defensive fourth quarter as the Viqueens defeated the Lady Eagles 42-38.
Both teams struggled to score in the opening quarter, but Community (6-1) took a slim 10-6 lead to the second quarter.
Haley Mitchell scored five points and Breanna Whitaker had four to lead the Viqueens in the quarter as the Lady Eagles scored 13 points to cut the Community advantage to 20-19 at the half.
M.J. Simmons scored six points and Addison Brothers added four to account for all 10 Viqueen points in the third quarter.
Eagleville had its biggest quarter with 14 points and took a 33-30 lead to the final quarter.
Mitchell, Simmons, and Whitaker had four points each to pace the Viqueens, including a 6-of-8 performance from the line in the quarter, but it was the Community defense that stood out.
