UNIONVILLE – After an energized performance in a district loss the previous night, the Community Viqueens could not get untracked and had a hard time mounting rallies as the Lawrence County Lady Cats defeated the Viqueens in straight sets in a District 9-AA volleyball match Thursday night.
It was the third district match in three nights for the Viqueens.
Community (3-3, 2-2) used the serving of M.J. Simmons to go on a 4-0 run en route to a 9-5 lead in the opening set.
But the Lady Cats used their strength at the net to rebound with a 10-1 run of their own to take a 15-10 lead.
Lawrence County increased their lead and finished with a 25-16 win.
The Lady Cat service game took center stage in the second set as the Viqueens had trouble making accurate returns.
After a 4-4 tie, Lawrence County took control and used seven consecutive points to take an 18-8 lead.
The Lady Cats ended the set with a 25-12 win.
The Viqueens fought back with their serving to stay close in the third set, but the Lady Cat returns and service game were tough to overcome.
After trailing 9-2 early, Community cut the Lady Cat lead to 14-9 before Lawrence County pulled away and took the deciding set 25-16.
"We have some things to work on at practice tomorrow," Coach Tiffany Klages of the Viqueens said.
Community will take a break due to the horse show and will host Cannon County in a district matchup on September 7.
