UNIONVILLE — The Community Middle Viqueens shaved 15 points off the Eagleville Lady Eagle lead with a strong fourth quarter, but the first three quarters were too much for the Viqueens to overcome as the Lady Eagles took a 39-30 win in a basketball contest Monday night.
The Lady Eagles took advantage of their height and went on an 11-0 run to take a 15-2 lead in the opening quarter. Eagleville finished the quarter with a 15-4 advantage.
The Community defense held the Lady Eagles to just one point in the first three minutes of the second quarter, but Eagleville got untracked to score 12 points the rest of the way.
Stevie Dickenson led the Viqueens with four points as the Lady Eagles took a 28-11 lead into halftime.
Eagleville kept the pressure on by outscoring the Viqueens 11-4 in the third quarter and took a 39-15 advantage to the final period.
The Community bench came on strong in the fourth quarter to narrow the margin.
Brailey Whitehead scored eight points while Jayla Mangrum added five as the Viqueens pitched a shutout and got within single digits.
Whitehead netted 10 points while Mangrum had nine to lead the Viqueens.
Community travels to Cascade to play the Lady Champions in an intra-county game Thursday night.
