MURFREESBORO — Despite being held scoreless in the fourth quarter, Central Magnet piled up enough points through the first three frames to outlast the Community Middle Viqueen comeback bid for a 28-25 win over the Purple and Gold.
Central Magnet led a after a low scoring first quarter, 6-4, but saw the Viqueens nearly match pace on the offensive end of the floor as both teams reached double figures.
Central Magnet piled on 11 points in the third frame, while Community added 10.
The home team continued to lead at the half, 17-14.
Despite the close first quarter, the biggest point differential came in the third quarter when Central Magnet outscored Community 11-5 for a commanding 28-19 lead.
The Viqueens rallied for six points in the fourth, but just couldn't come up with the needed points to complete the rally.
Community had its chances at the free throw line, but managed to make just 9 of 25 tries from the charity stripe.
Izzy Martinez led the Purple and Gold in the scoring column with nine points.
Community will be back in action on Thursday evening, hosting MTCS at 6 p.m.
