UNIONVILLE – The Community Viqueens kept the pressure on throughout the match and swept the Fayetteville Lady Tigers in three sets in the semifinals of the District 6-A tournament Monday night.
The Viqueens used strong serving and effective net play along with runs of 5-0, 9-0, and 7-0 to gain the advantage and take a 25-10 opening set win.
The second set was closer as the Lady Tigers improved their digs and smashes. Community suffered some service errors as Fayetteville fought to only trail 12-11.
The Viqueens gained control and scored the final six points with the serving of Jesa Moore to take a 25-15 win.
Community was clicking on all cylinders in the final set.
Halli Smith was the server as the Viqueens scored the first eight points to take control. Korie Ann Beasley used two aces as Community increased its lead to 14-1 en route to a 25-9 victory.
The Viqueens had 25 kills in the contest, with Smith, M.J. Simmons, and Moore collecting six each.
Beasley was strong from the backcourt with 13 digs.
"We took a few sets to get warmed up, and then we really stopped making as many mistakes," Coach Tiffany Klages of the Viqueens said.
Community hosts Eagleville in the finals of the tournament at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
