COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens won a pair of games as part of the Zion Christian Tournament on Thursday in an evening doubleheader, taking down Mt. Pleasant 9-2 in six innings and then also run-ruling Zion Christian Academy 11-1 in five innings.

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens won a pair of games as part of the Zion Christian Tournament on Thursday in an evening doubleheader, taking down Mt. Pleasant 9-2 in six innings and then also run-ruling Zion Christian Academy 11-1 in five innings.
In the first game against the Lady Tigers, the Viqueens scored nine runs on 11 hits. Junior Haylee Webb got the start in the circle, throwing 3.0 innings while giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and one walk on 44 pitches. Gracie Daniel came on in relief, pitching the final three innings and striking out five batters without allowing a single runner to reach safely on 37 pitches.
Freshman catcher, Mattie Maxey, went 2-3 with one RBI from the leadoff spot for Community. Gracie Daniel went 2-4 with two RBI, and Anna Haskins was the other Viqueen to record a pair of hits, going 2-3 at the plate and scoring two runs. Carlie Blanton went 1-3 with a bases-clearing double in the second inning while Taylor Wessner, Brooklyn Yoes, and Aliana Leverette also recorded a base-hit with Leverette driving home a run.
Community opened the scoring in the first inning with Gracie Daniel driving home Maxey to give the Viqueens a 1-0 lead. Blanton cleared the bases with a double in the second, sparking a four-run inning as Community extended their lead to 5-0.
Mt. Pleasant responded with a pair of runs in the third inning before the Viqueens scored two more in the home half to get their lead back to five runs, 7-2.
Community scored two more in the fifth, and after Daniel set down the Lady Tigers in order in the top of the sixth to close out the Viqueen’s fourth win of the season, 9-2.
In the second game against Zion Christian, Annie Prince was given the start in the circle. Prince went the complete 5.0 innings, giving up just one earned run on three hits while striking out 14 batters without a single free pass on 69 pitches. Of her 69 pitches, 50 were strikes as she overpowered the Lady Eagles’ lineup.
For Zion Christian, Marleigh McWilliams got the start, going 5.0 innings and giving up 11 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits and three walks while striking out three batters on 105 pitches.
McWilliams was hit by a pitch at the plate and also accounted for one of the three hits the Lady Eagles could muster up with the other two coming from freshman Leighla Rains. Rains went 2-2 at the plate, driving home McWilliams in the bottom of the first inning to give Zion Christian their only lead of the game at 1-0.
Community quickly responded with three runs of their own in the second inning. Maxey went 1-2 at the plate from the top of the lineup while drawing two walks and driving home a pair of runs. Daniel, batting second, hit 3-4 with four RBI. Alana Tate hit 2-3 while Blanton went 3-3 at the plate with two RBI. Maxey, Daniel, and Blanton each hit a double as well while Daniel added a triple.
Prince and Taylor Wessner also recorded one hit apiece for the Viqueens.
Community tacked on six more runs in the top of the third to balloon their lead to 9-0 before scoring two more runs in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory after five innings, 11-0.
The Viqueens improve to 5-0 on the season and will travel to Blackman on Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
