UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens took control early with the help of a strong inside game and some timely outside shooting as the Viqueens defeated the Cascade Lady Champions 61-33 in a semifinal game of the District 7-AA tournament Monday night.
After the Lady Champions scored the first bucket of the game, Community (21-7) took charge and never took the foot off the pedal.
M.J. Simmons and Breanna Whitaker each scored seven points while Addison Brothers added five as the Viqueens scored the next 22 points and led 22-2 after one quarter.
It was Simmons on the inside and Whitaker on the outside as Community upped its lead in the second quarter.  Simmons netted 12 points and Whitaker added seven as the Viqueens scored the first seven points of the quarter to complete a 29-0 run.
Cascade had four players score as the Viqueens took a 43-11 lead into the intermission.
Simmons added six points in the third quarter as the Viqueens kept the pressure on.  Community outscored the Lady Champions 12-2 and carried a 55-13 advantage to the final quarter.
The Viqueens scored the first field goal before Cascade got hot.
Abrielle Presley scored seven points while Abby Harris had six points and Sophie Ray added five as the Lady Champs enjoyed their best output of the night and used a 14-0 run to outscore the Viqueens 20-6 as substitutes from both teams saw plenty of action.

Ray, Presley, and Caroline Stone each scored seven points to lead the Lady Champs.
The Viqueens were 15-of-21 at the free throw line while Cascade was 5-of-7.
"We wanted to set the tone and we wanted to start well on both sides of the court," Coach Cody Pierce of the Viqueens said.
"We didn't like how we played Friday, so I told them you need to come out and set the tone and keep it that way," Pierce added. "I feel like we did that."
