Warmer temps expected for weekend

As the cold front moved into our area Wednesday night we had wind gusting to 40 miles per hour along with the rain and then the Arctic air came pouring in for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

We get a warming trend for the weekend with temperatures climbing into the mid-40s Saturday afternoon and near 50 on Sunday and I expect off and on sunshine for your weekend. High temperatures are expected to stay 50 to 55 from Monday through Wednesday. Another front will bring a chance of precipitation around New Year’s Eve.

Late December can bring a wide variation of rough weather across Middle Tennessee. December 23, 1963 brought a big snow with Tullahoma measuring 10 inches. December 23, 1998 brought an ice storm to much of the area with numerous power outages, 80% of Coffee County was without power. Christmas Eve 1988 a rare winter F4 tornado traveled from Franklin to Brentwood destroying 54 homes with one fatality and 7 injuries reported. On New Year’s Eve 1951 the temperatures were in the 70s across Middle Tennessee with Nashville checking in at 76 degrees and Clarksville hit 80.
