BELL BUCKLE — The Webb School will host the 17th annual John Freeman Invitational Cross-Country meet on Sept. 4. More than 30 teams from Tennessee including about 500 runners are expected. Competitors are in grades 6-12. The race begins at 7:50 a.m. on the John Freeman Cross-Country Course located on the Webb campus adjacent to Lagler Field. Races for boys and girls in the middle school and high school divisions will wrap up with the last race starting around 9:30 a.m.
John Freeman, a member of the class of 2003, tragically passed away his senior year in a car accident. His parents, Patsy and Dr. Bill Freeman, attend the meet each year and are so proud of what the Invitational has become. In a recent interview, they said that Webb’s strong academic and athletic opportunities allowed their son to flourish. John’s sister, Keri Freeman Maffei, is also a Webb graduate in the class of 1997.
