SHELBYVILLE, TN – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes ended a three-game skid with an emphatic win over the visiting Siegel Lady Stars, 69-37, on Friday night.

Lanaya Young scored 23 of her season-high 28 points in the second half to lead the route for the Eaglettes, connecting on four three-pointers in the final 16 minutes and finished with five makes from downtown for the game as a whole. Senior backcourt mate, Jaz Western, found her rhythm early and often, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the first quarter alone. Overall, Shelbyville connected on nine three-pointers as a team, including four in the opening period as part of a 23-point first quarter. Janiya Leslie also chipped in with 10 points on the night.

Siegel only managed to have two players score in double-figures, and neither of them had the level of output that Young did. Neela Alexander scored a team-high 11 points while Ke’Mani Kelso finished with 10 points of her own.

The Eaglettes came out of the gates running on all cylinders, taking a 23-5 lead after the first quarter behind Western’s 10 points and the team as a whole connecting on four three-pointers. One from Leslie, two from Western, and one from Young helped Shelbyville increase the intensity on the defensive end, holding the Lady Stars to just one made field goal for the quarter from Alexander.

In the second quarter, Siegel outscored the Eaglettes, 14-5, as the hosts’ hot start dramatically cooled off. Kelso connected on a pair of triples for the Lady Stars as part of her eight-point period, sending both teams to the halftime locker room with Shelbyville holding on to a nine-point advantage, 28-19.

Coming out for the third quarter, the Eaglettes started the second half almost the same way they began the game with a 25-point period. However, this time it was Lanaya Young doing the bulk of the scoring, putting in 15 of her game-high 28 points in the period while connecting on a trio of three-pointers as well. Siegel had no answers for Young on either end, only managing to score 10 points of their own in the quarter as Shelbyville took a commanding 53-29 lead into the final frame.

Young continued her torrid second half at the start of the fourth quarter, connecting on two more triples to build on her team’s lead, before being subbed out for the night. Shelbyville outscored Siegel, 16-8, in the fourth, to close with a 69-37 victory.

Siegel falls to 2-6 on the season and will host Wilson Central on Tuesday night.

Shelbyville improves to 3-4 overall and is scheduled for their rematch at Summit on Monday night with tipoff coming at 6:00 p.m.
