A jury has found Raymond Antonio Smith, 47, of Shelbyville, guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal beating of Sarah Angelina "Angel" Johnson. Sentencing for Smith will be held June 17 in Bedford County Circuit Court.
The crime, considered by the state to be premeditated, occurred at 3142 Sims Road home in Bedford County on March 15, 2022.
Smith was also found guilty on the count of theft of property. The 2002 Toyota 4Runner that prosecutors said Smith fled in, and wrecked, immediately following the crime, was estimated at about $3,000.
