UNIONVILLE - After being fouled in the goalie area, Randy Anica of the Community Vikings converted a penalty kick in the final seconds to give the Vikings a 4-3 victory over the Forrest Rockets in a District 6-A soccer matchup Thursday night.

Community (2-3-2, 2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Andrew Montalvo scored with 23 minutes left.

After the Rockets tied the game, McCade Miller scored with an assist from Anica with 10:56 remaining to give the Vikings a 2-1 halftime lead.

An Anica goal with 25 minutes left in the second half gave the Vikings a 3-1 lead.

With the Vikings playing one man short, Forrest took advantage and scored two goals within a five-minute stretch to tie the game at 3-3.

The teams battled to take the lead over the next 16 minutes.

Anica drove close to the Rocket goal and was fouled, giving the Vikings a penalty kick.

Anica went to the left and made the kick to give Community a 4-3 lead with no time showing on the clock.

About one minute of extra time was added as the Rockets looked to tie the game.

Forrest could not connect as the Vikings took the district win.

"We played with a man down for about 30 minutes," Coach Cody Pierce of the Vikings said. "We found a way to pull it out."

"We swept them, so that's pretty big," Pierce added. "That puts us in that second or third spot we're fighting for."

The Vikings host Fayetteville in a district game Thursday at 6 p.m.
