Middle Tennessee is enjoying its second run of beautiful Indian summer weather and it will continue with sunny days and clear nights through the weekend and last through Monday. Afternoon high temperatures will climb to the mid 70s. Looks like a chance of rain will come back by the middle part of next week. Showers and a few thunderstorms are possible by late Tuesday into Wednesday.

Rainfall across Middle Tennessee for October generally ranged from 5 to 6 inches, which was a couple of inches above normal, but even heavier amounts occurred in the counties bordering Alabama; 7.34 inches was measured about 9 miles west-southwest of Shelbyville with 6.64 inches measured 3 miles east of Shelbyville. The month finished about 2 degrees above normal on temperatures.

November is a month when anything is possible. We hit the mid 80s in 2016 but the temperature dropped to the single digits in 1955. Nov. 2, 1966 brought a record snow for the month to the Midstate area with 15 inches recorded in Cookeville, 12 in Carthage, 10 in Portland and 7 inches recorded right here in Shelbyville.

The seasons are doing battle this month and tornadoes are always a possibility. Nov. 10, 2002 brought EF2 tornadoes with winds over 100 miles an hour to Robertson, Sumner, Bedford and Coffee counties with two fatalities and 27 injuries. A rare EF3 tornado hit Cumberland County with four people killed.
