VFW Breakfast

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5019, and its Auxiliary will host their 2nd Saturday of the month FUNDRAISER BREAKFAST Saturday, May 13, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the VFW Post, 1320 Depot Street.  There will be home-cooked food (including country ham and pork loin). Carry-outs are available. For more information call Alex at 615-513-7959.  The food for this fundraiser has been generously donated by HUMANA.

Decoration Day

Old Mt. Hermon Cemetery will host its Decoration Day on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. The cemetery caretaker will be at the cemetery to meet visitors and take donations.  If unable to visit, please send donations to: Friends of Old Mt Hermon Cemetery, P.O. Box 831, Shelbyville, TN  37162.

Decoration services will be held at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery on Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m. Donations may be given at the cemetery or mailed to Mt. Hermon Cemetery Association, c/o Linda Jacobs, 1199 Bugscuffle Road, Wartrace, TN 37183.

Decoration Day at Wheel Cemetery will be May 13. There will be a short service at 2 p.m. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery will be accepted and very much appreciated.

There will be a workday at Rosebank Cemetery in Flat Creek May 13 beginning at 9 a.m. Please bring your yard tools.

Car show

The Celebration City Region Car Club will be hosting a car show Saturday, May 13, at the Celebration horse show pavilion. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and judging will begin at 12 noon. Trophies will be presented at 3 p.m.

Bedford Warriors Course

The Bedford Warriors for Charity will host their first-ever obstacle course challenge on Saturday, May 1, at 9 a.m. at the Bedford County Agriculture Center. Prize money will be donated to a Bedford County charity for the top three women’s and top three men’s finishers. For more information contact Amanda Arnold at 931-206-0574 or Ron Orr at 615-598-8617. Food trucks, vendors, and kids’ area will also be available.

Fish fry

The First Choice Annual Fish Fry fundraiser will be Saturday, May 13, at Walnut Ridge Farm, 1198 Whiteside Hill Rd. in Wartrace. Food will be served from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Kids 10 and under eat free at the event. Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com or by calling First Choice Pregnancy Center at 931-680-0066. Tickets will also be $20 at the door. Curbside pick-up available. Call by noon May 12 to schedule pickup if purchasing more than five meals.

Old Orchard Decoration Day

Old Orchard Cemetery will hold its annual Decoration & Memorial Service Sunday, May 14, at 2 p.m. Board Members will be on-site Friday, Saturday, & Sunday: May 12, 13, & 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accept upkeep donations and answer questions. If you are unable to attend, feel free to mail your donation to P.O. Box 94, Petersburg, TN.

Democratic Party Meeting

The Bedford County Democratic Party will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 15, at the El Mexico Mexican Restaurant at 724 N. Main Street in Shelbyville.

MAY 17

ABCs of Medicare

The ABCs of Medicare Class is offered monthly. The next class will be on May 17 at 101 Sam Watkins Blvd in Mt. Pleasant from 9 a.m. to noon. Advance registration is required. Counselors are available by phone or by appointment at your local Senior Center. Theatre auditions

Fly Community Theatre will be holding auditions on May 18 at 6 p.m. and May 21 at 2 p.m. at The Fly Arts Center for the comedy Play On! This show is about a community theatre and the disasters that happen while they are trying to produce a show called "Murder Most Foul.

MAY 19

Gilliland Fish Fry

The Gilliland Historical Research Center, 803 Lipscomb Street, will be hosting its annual Fish Fry and Bake Sale on Friday, May 19, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tours will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Decoration Day

New Hope at Talley Station Cemetery’s decoration is set for the 3rd Saturday, May 20.  Board members will be at the cemetery from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Donations can also be made at or mailed to First National Bank, 1190 N Ellington Pkwy, Lewisburg, TN  37091.

Decoration Day at New Herman Cemetery will be Sunday, May 21, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made Sunday or mailed to Frances McGee, 114 Goose Creek Rd., Shelbyville, TN 37160.

The decoration service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, at Burns Chapel Cemetery on Burns Road. Donations will be accepted for cemetery upkeep, and donations may be mailed to: Wallace Cartwright, 301 Brown Lane, Shelbyville, TN 37160.

The Unionville Cemetery decoration will be on May 21 at 2 p.m. Any donations can be sent to: Peggy Orrell,416 Riverbend Country Club Rd., Shelbyville, TN 37160.

Decoration day at Houston Whitworth Cemetery will be May 21st. There will be a short service at 2 p.m. Donations may be given at the cemetery or mailed to: Charles Armstrong, 435 Old Nashville Dirt Rd., Shelbyville, TN 37160.

Town Hall Meeting

A Town Hall Meeting for District 4 will be held at 6:30 p.m. at The Liberty School Cafeteria and will be hosted by District 4 commissioners Diane Neeley and Anita Epperson. SCHRA meeting

The South Central Human Resource Agency Governing Board will meet on Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at SCHRA Central Office, 1437 Winchester Hwy., Fayetteville. The SCHRA Budget/Audit/Appropriations, Property, and Personnel Committees will meet prior to the Governing Board Meeting at 10 a.m.

Meals on Wheels

Shelbyville Senior Citizens Center is in need of Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver meals to the homebound of Shelbyville. For more information, call 684-0019 and ask for Amy Wilson.

Soup kitchen

Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen serves meals from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 336 S. Cannon Blvd. (corner of South Cannon Boulevard and Pickle Street). Donations may be made to Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 2259, Shelbyville, TN 37162, and are tax deductible under its 501c3 non-profit designation.

Boxed non-perishables are available. Takeouts are no longer distributed.

Head Start

Bedford County Head Start Centers are currently taking applications. For more information or to complete an application contact any Head Start Center. Phone numbers are: Wartrace 931-389-6406, Harris Head Start 931-773-0033, North Side Head Start Center 931-773-0141, and Bedford Early Head Start 931-685-0876. Head Start is a free child development program for children 6 weeks to 3 years and their families. Early Head Start enrolls pregnant women for monthly prenatal educational visits.

Celebrate Recovery

Church of Christ

This Sunday at Fairlane Church of Christ, the sermon is “Lessons from Mary” and the scripture is Luke 1: 26-38.

The Southside Church of Christ lesson will be “Follower of God” from Luke 9:23 by Jim Gibson at 10 a.m. Sunday. Brian Nicholson will be doing a Study of Colossians at the Sunday 6 p.m. service. David Sanders will be teaching “Restoration Thought and History” at the Wednesday 6:30 p.m. service. Methodist

Pastor Abe Zimmerman's sermon at the Shelbyville First United Methodist Church will be "If My People: A Call to Prayer" from 2 Chronicles 6:12-13, 7:11-15. Throughout history, there have been times when God’s people came together and prayed, and then God showed up and responded in amazing ways. These next three weeks, they will look at different places in the Bible where prayer changed things. You can join them for worship service at 10 a.m. as they take a closer look at prayer. Service is also livestreamed on Facebook and broadcast on WLIJ 1580 AM.

First Christian invites everyone to worship with this Sunday at 10 a.m. as they talk about Mary the Mother of Jesus as a “Model for the Modern Mom.” Children's graded worship & nursery are also available at 10 am as well.

Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church's service for this Sunday, the 6th Sunday of Easter, will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jim Moran.  All services are streamed live on Facebook.  Sunday School starts at 9 a.m. They have all age groups and a nursery available for the little ones.  They would love to see some new faces and hope you can join them on Sunday at 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for our worship service.

Women's Day programs

A "Women's Day Program" will be held at Thompson Grove Missionary Baptist Church on May 21 at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after service. 
Cowpuncher's Cowboy Church will be hosting its 3rd annual women's ministry "Bee a Blessing" conference on Saturday, June 3, at 1624 Hwy 41A from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be guest speakers, musical guest Delnora, food, and door prizes.
