Mrs. Dorothy Sue "Dot" Newman, age 88, of Shelbyville, passed away April 21, 2021.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro. Pastor Lloyd Warren will officiate.
Dot was born June 7, 1932, in Nashville, Arkansas, to the late Ernest Porterfield and Violet Hooker Porterfield. She was a nursing assistant at St. Thomas West Hospital for over 30 years and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Newman, in 2013, and a sister, Glenna Tollett.
She is survived by her daughter, Dottie Schermaker, of Pennsylvania; a son, Johnny Nixs; step-daughters: Terry (David) Parish, of Estill Springs, Janie (Gary) Townes, of Tullahoma, and Dawna (Kenneth) Adcock, of Tullahoma; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bible and Literature Missionary Foundation, 2101 Hwy 231 South, Shelbyville, TN 37160.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
