COLUMBIA - Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagle soccer team came up just a little short in a 3-2- loss at Columbia Central in the District 8-AAA Tournament on Thursday night.

The Eagles (8-6-3) travel to Oakland, a 2-0 winner over Stewarts Creek on Thursday night, in the opening round of the region tournament on Tuesday night at 7.

"Columbia is one of the best teams in the state this year and we had to play with a ton of heart and composure to challenge them," Shelbyville Central coach Chris Fritz said.

Daniel Juarez scored the first goal of the game at the 34:08 point of the first half.

The Lions (16-2-1) responded off a free kick by Brandon Carrascoza with 20:11 left in the opening half.

Victor Ramirez gave Columbia Central the lead off his first of two free kicks at the 33:37 mark of the second half to make the score 2-1.

Noah Carballoso came off the bench to make a big play for the Eagles and even the score at 2-2 at the 17:34 mark of the second half.

Ramirez scored the game-winning goal off another free kick with 12:02 left to play.

"I thought we really played well on defense and we had some early chances that we didn't convert, but we will use the next few practices to prepare for Oakland next Tuesday,' Fritz said.
