LEBANON - The Golden Eagles moved the ball but couldn’t find ways to finish drives in a disappointing 30-8 Region 3-6A loss at Lebanon on Friday night.
Shelbyville Central racked up 358 yards of total offense but struggled to find the end zone.
“This is one of the more frustrating games I’ve had in a long time. We just did not play well up front on the O-line tonight,” Shelbyville Central coach Josh Puckett said. ”Every time we got some momentum going on offense we would have a holding call then we gave a couple of big plays on defense. We’ve got to find a way to have some explosive plays on offense.”
The Blue Devils led 13-0 after the first quarter, off a 95-yard run by Jaylen Abston and a 53-yard pass to Kemontez Logue from Abston.
The Eagles’ lone touchdown came midway through the second stanza when Gavin Donegan hauled in a 31-yard pass from Kade Cunningham. Cunningham carried for the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 13-8.
Lebanon added a 34 yard field-goal before the end of the half to hold a 16-8 advantage at the intermission.
Shelbyville Central attempted two on-side-kicks, the second to start the second half, and both were unsuccessful,
Lebanon took advantage of the good field position and scored on a Brandon Martin 10-yard run. The kick after made the score 23-8.
“All week we thought we had something with an onside kick and on the first one we executed it great. The ball was just there on the ground and we couldn’t get anyone to fall on it,” Puckett said. “Lebanon had some guys that could run there in the back end. We thought we could change the momentum and we didn’t.”
Anthony Crowell added another touchdown in the third quarter for the Blue Devils.
Cunningham connected on 9-of-23 passes for 175 yards. He rushed for 61 yards on 14 carries.
Laquan Young carried the ball 18 times for 102 yards while Donegan had three catches for 88 yards.
The Eagles (2-2, 1-1 3-6A) host Hendersonville on Friday night at 7.
